Donna Deegan is the 45th mayor of Jacksonville and the ninth mayor since the city’s historic consolidation in 1968. A fifth-generation Jacksonville native, award-winning journalist, three-time cancer survivor, and nonprofit founder, she was sworn into office on July 1, 2023, with a clear mission: make city government more accessible, restore trust, and ensure that every neighborhood shares in Jacksonville’s growth.
Since taking office, Mayor Deegan has focused on delivering tangible progress and restoring the promise that Jacksonville works for everyone. Her leadership is defined by a simple approach—listen to residents, focus on results, and follow through. Key accomplishments include:
Historic City Infrastructure Investments
Delivering one of the largest infrastructure and neighborhood improvement budgets in decades, addressing roads, parks, drainage, and resilience projects.
Investing in Public Safety
Supporting Jacksonville’s police officers and firefighters with meaningful pay increases and resources to strengthen recruitment, retention, and community safety. Launched Jacksonville Journey Forward, a community-led initiative to address the root causes of crime.
Modernizing City Services
Streamlining permitting and development processes to make it faster and easier for businesses and residents to navigate city government.
Affordable Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization
Building more housing. reducing homelessness, and investing in under-resourced communities so every neighborhood can share in Jacksonville’s growth.
Investing in the Next Generation
Launching initiatives that support literacy, youth development, and recreation, creating more opportunities for Jacksonville’s children to succeed.

Broadening public health resources, supporting community-based care, and improving access to services for residents across the city.

Advancing major investments in downtown Jacksonville, including revitalization efforts and the establishment of a new University of Florida campus to drive innovation, job creation, and long-term economic growth.
